Links

Check out the links from Oaktree's website about Tristan's world record bike ride attempt!

Plus, when the ride begins you will be able to keep track of Tristan's progress via the link on SKM's website.

The Route

Although adjustments will probably be made along the way, so far the plan is to head out of Sydney via the Hume Highway, passing through Goulburn, Wagga Wagga, Hay and Balranald. Then briefly into Victoria passing through Mildura. Should enter NSW near Renmark, followed by Port Augusta, Kimba and Ceduna. From here there's little confusion about which direction to go in and the Nullarbor Plain adventure begins all the way across the SA/WA border passing through Eucla, Cocklebiddy and Norseman at the other end! A brief change heading north to Kalgoorlie before heading west through Southern Cross and Northam for the grand finale in Perth!!! Hopefully Tristan should be there on Thursday October 6th, 9 days after leaving Bondi!

The Sponsors

Thanks to our major sponsor Sinclair Knight Merz (aka SKM), without which this would have been a very expensive endeavour!!!

Also thanks to Bike Force Subiaco, who have helped Tristan out with all his biking gear (Trust me, that's a huge help! Who knew there were so many accessories and parts to a bike!!!).

Be sure to check out their websites to find out who they are and what they're all about.

The Oaktree Foundation

A little bit about the charity Tristan is helping to raise funds for and awareness of....

The Oaktree Foundation is Australia's first youth-run aid organisation that seeks to empower and equip children and youth in the developing world. By supporting Oaktree the foundation is able to resource education and community based initiatives in developing countries. The Oaktree Foundation aims to assist young people in developing countries by promoting education, motivation and sustainability.

With great privileges come great responsibilities.

For further information check out the website which will tell you about how Oaktree got started, specific projects running in Africa, how to get involved or make a donation.

Tristan

This is the face you'll see hiding beneath a helmet for 4000km!

Tristan
(it's okay, we all think he's a little crazy for what he's doing too!!!)

What is this all about?

A big bike ride. A REALLY big bike ride!

Tristan is going to attempt to ride his bike (yes a pushbike, not a motorbike!) all the way from Sydney to Perth in less than 10 days. Why less than 10 days!? Because that is what the current Guinness World Record stands at: 9 days, 23 hours and ?? minutes. This coast to coast ride will begin on Tuesday 27th September 2005 at Bondi (Sydney). Along with his support crew of 4, he hopes to arrive at Cottesloe (Perth) before the sun sets on Thursday 6th October 2005. So fingers crossed!! Due to the enormity of this event, Tristan thought he may as well do it for a cause. That's why his ride is going to help raise money for The Oaktree Foundation, a charity that's just starting to kick off here in WA.

So anyone can get involved by making a donation, coming to see us somewhere along route or just checking out what's going on here at http://bikerideacrossoz.blogspot.com.

You can contact Tristan and his team at bikeacrossoz@yahoo.com.au.
